  1. Evaluation question 3: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

  2. My magazine

  3. Age related distribution Due to the target audience of my magazine being 30 – 70 you have to think of a convenient store that isn’t out of their way. For this reason I feel my magazine would be greatly distributed in supermarkets, where the older generation often go at least twice a week. As well as this I feel WHSmith would be an ideal place for my magazine to be distributed. The reason behind this is because in for example HMV, magazines tend to be for a younger audience therefore mostly distribute magazines like Q, NME etc. WHSmith is a shop that is for all ages and has a variety of genres. I feel a classical music magazine like would sell well in a shop like this.

  4. Institution best suited for my magazine After researching different institutions for magazines, I came across ‘Rhinegold’. (http://www.rhinegold.co.uk/ ) Rhinegold publishes arts, music and education. Some of the magazines I came across that Rhinegold distributes are: ‘Choir & Organ’, ‘Classical Music’, ‘Early Music Today’, ‘International Piano’, ‘Music Teacher’ and ‘Opera Now’. The information I found about Rhinegold was very beneficial. It gave me great knowledge of what type of institution would distribute my magazine. I compared Rhinegold to other institutions like IPC, but decided Rhinegold was the best for my genre of music magazine, as IPC distribute magazines of different types of media. As you can see they already distribute classical music magazines like mine and also another factor which made it more suitable is the fact they publish educational magazines. Although my magazine is a classical music magazine, it has aspects of education due to the older/wiser audience. By distributing my magazine with Rhinegold I can be confident my magazine will be successful, knowing they have magazines like mine.

  5. New technology A factor I feel is important to consider is new technology. Audiences of such a variety of age are now using items like ipads, apps on mobile phones, ipods and andriods. As technology continues to develop and products like the above are being used, I feel it would be useful to use a more up coming technology to distribute my magazine. By doing this my magazine is going to be distributed more efficiently and reached to all ages of my audience, as everyone is able to get to it. Ways of using new technology to distribute my magazine could include distributing it online or by an app for example. I have a strong feeling this would a successful distribution method because if you take Itunes as an example, it has the ibooks app which allows audiences of all ages to download what they want to read. This proves to be successful when you look at the amount of people that use this method.
