  1. The Use Of Gas In WW1 By Adam Al Shehabi, 9M

  2. 1914: -The French were the first to use gas in 1914 on the Germans. -They used tear gas inside 26mm grenades. 1915: -Germany was the first to make large-scale use of gas as a weapon; 18,000 artillery shells containing liquid xylyl bromide tear gas were fired on Russian positions on the Rawka River, west of Warsaw. -However , instead of vaporizing, the chemical froze and failed to have the desired affect.

  3. 1915: -The British were outraged at the Germans use of poison gas at Ypres, so they decided to copy them. -The British decided to use Chlorine for the first time at the battle of Loos, but the attempt was a disaster as it was laying in no-mans land and in some places blew back into the British trenches.

  4. 1917: -The most widely reported, and perhaps, the most effective gas of WW1 is Mustard Gas, which was first introduced by the Germans. -Mustard gas caused internal and external bleeding, mustard gas blisters, vomiting, sore eyes and it attacked the bronchial tubes, stripping off the mucous membrane, which was extremely painful. -Fatal victims often took four or five weeks to die.

  5. Estimated Gas Casualties: British: Fatal = 8109 Non Fatal = 188,706 Germans: Fatal = 9000 Non Fatal = 200,000 French: Fatal = 8000 Non Fatal = 190,000 Russians: Fatal = 56,000 Non Fatal = 419,340 Total: Fatal = 88,498 Non Fatal = 1,240,853
