  2. Who is Responsible? • Clinical or non clinical, every staff member has a part to play in the prevention and management of health care associated infections – even the smallest of actions can make a significant difference

  3. What does infection prevention mean to you??? • Standard Precautions. • Taking sensible steps to protect yourself and others against diseases that patients may have. • Protecting the patient from us! • Based on the procedure being undertaken, not what is known or suspected about an individual.

  4. Bare below elbows policy • Directive from the Department of Health • Staff having an interface with patients • WILL; • Decontaminate their hands before contact and immediately after contact • Be bare below their elbows • Only wear a single plain banded ring • ‘Tuck’ in ties to avoid contact with patient • WILL NOT • Wear stoned rings or wrist watch during patient interface • Wear lanyards (only clip on ID badges for clinical staff) • Wear false nails, nail tips or nail varnish
