  2. Information Report • A factual text which provides information about something. • Uses facts to explain • Gives details about a topic • Does not contain personal views

  3. Purpose • To document, organise and store factual information on vampire squids.

  4. Organisation of an information report 1. Title/ Heading - What topic is covered in the report 2. Introduction - Explains the aspects of the topic that will be covered in the report. 3. Body - Sub-headings helps to organise information and the topic of the report is covered in more details. 4. Conclusion - Gives any final details or facts about the topic. Can be used to review what the report is about.

  5. Structure of an information report • Introduction • Includes a general statement • Introduces the topic/ subject • Body • Has sub-headings • Characteristics (Eg. Habitat, Food, Adaptations) • Examples • Components and their functions • Conclusion - Summary of all the points stated in the text.

  6. Language features • Present Tense • Technical language related to subject • Descriptive language (Should be factual rather than imaginative) • Paragraphs with topic sentence - to organize information

  7. An example – Topic Sentence • The Great White, Hammerhead ,Tiger and Bull Shark are all known to be dangerous to people. The Great White sharks is the largest predatory fish in the world. It grows up to 6.5 meters long and has razor-sharp teeth as long as fingers. Despite the impression given by films, the most common enemies of the shark are not ruthless human hunters but other larger sharks. Even baby sharks have to watch out for their own parents who might snap them up. However ,most shark not harmful. They are actually gentle creatures, mostly interested in eating tiny plants (plankton) and fishes.
