Special benefits for the bne

Special benefits for the BNE

  • The main benefit for the Library is the funding of the mass digitisation activities

  • The BNE is the only owner of the digital images (both access and master copies)

  • It is unique responsible for the digitised content and for the technical specifications

  • Quality of the content and of the process is assured as long as it is done under the Library’s criteria and needs

  • Access to the digital objects depends only of the BNE

  • Expertise of Telefónica + administrative management

Conclusions

  • Great success: number of users, quality/quantity of the work, experience acquired, relationship with Telefónica:

    • 1.400.000 documents downloaded in 2010.

  • Necessity of assuring funding.

  • What have we learnt?

    • The importance of planning: 25.000.000/200.000 = 125

    • Impact in the Library processes > all the Services are implied in this project > more than 30.000 pages/day digitized.

    • Institutional support.

    • Long term preservation.

    • Take advantage of others expertise.
