  2. Types of blogs • fashion, lifestyle and beauty blogs they normally offer a personal insight into everyday life and interests of the blogger. • Personal vlogs- they share their thoughts and experiences they normally use a direct mode of address and use close ups combined with minimal editing to help foster a scene of intimacy • Entertainment vlogs- a broad range of videos some may use short comedy sketches and pranks. • Gaming vlogs- ‘walkthrough’ is aimed at showing the audience how to complete and unlock certain things in a game where as a ‘lets play’ is less structured and is not a tutorial more like a review.

  3. Sematic theory • How does the design of the blog signify the type of channel of page it is about. • The significance of the pandemic choices, • How do they make a brand identity is it a customised banner or a logo for example. • The images, colours and typography all signify the genre of blog, the mode of address. • The setting ay have significance • Non-verbal communication

  4. Gauntletts theory • Zoella creates an everyday identity making every-day-life have meaning to the audience as they can relate and gain a sense of importance from this.

  5. Stuart halls representation theory • How the content creator represents their concepts, ideas, feelings through signs and symbols and how images create a particular meaning • Also in a vlog they may use sounds images or objects to contribute to the representations the product has to offer.

  6. Representation of gender types • Fashion and beauty blogs could be seen a reinforcing gender stereotypes to teens and preteens which as been similarly done in girls magazines • Make-up tutorials could be seen as having a similar function because it reinforces the gender stereotypes of girls having to wear makeup for example in Tanya Burrs video of ‘going back to school’ it means that she implies it is the social norm for girls to wear makeup at school. • Blogs may use gender specific mode of address because many blogs use colours associated with a specific genders for example a lot of blogs contain the colour pink that instantly signifies it is aimed at girls and fashion blogs may only include male or female fashion.,

  7. Impact of technology changes • User generated content as risen and content created by big corporations and professionals has declined. But some say that they now take advantage of the user generated content as it is a large platform for advertising and they can take control over the economic side of user generated content.

  8. Income for bloggers • They may have advertising on their blogs or channels • They may receive sponsors to show their product in the video for example they could use a certain type of makeup giving to them by a company • They also may have their own branded merchandise

  9. Regulating online media • Harder to regulate than the old media this is partly to do with the quantity of media being produced. And partly because it comes from so many different sources. • YouTube also has some guidelines that you have the follow thye are no nude or sexual content, violent or graphic content, hate speech or harmful content, spam or misleading data scams, harmful or dangerous conent, copy right and threats.

  10. Target audience and appeal • Zoella uses a lot of cheaper makeup brands compared to other bloggers making her videos more realistic to the audience as they can attempt her styles. • Also she uses informal language and uses a direct mode of address meaning that she can relate and engage with her audience

  11. Audience participation • They can write in comments sections and buy their brands menaing that they feel like they have a connection with them for example if they write a question and it gets answered the audience will feel like they have the time for them and they actually acre about them what many tv channels and other media formats do not offer.

  12. Cultivation theory • They are more engaged when the media is relevant to day to day life

  13. Practise question • Denotation is something that is visible and a connotation is the meaning behind it for example red could connote love or blood. • Because they have a high influence on the younger generation meaning that a program that may not interest younger viewers may become interesting to watch meaning more publicity more them and the tv show. • Because they know they can get involved because there is an open event where they can participate in events and feel included.
