  3. What do we use to measure liquid volume? We can use a beaker to measure large or small amounts of liquid. What are they counting by on this beaker?

  4. A flask helps to measure out large or small quantities of liquids. Why do you think it has a small neck an opening at the top?

  5. A graduated cylinder allows us to measure mainly smaller amounts of liquids. These are used for an more accurate and precise measurement.

  6. The graduates are the large numbers you can read on the measuring tool. The small lines are called the sub-graduates. Graduates Sub -Graduates

  7. What causes the meniscus? A concave meniscus occurs when the molecules of the liquid attract those of the container. The glass attracts the water on the sides. Measuring Volume We will be using graduated cylinders to find the volume of liquids and other objects. Read the measurement based on the bottom of the meniscus or curve. When using a real cylinder, make sure you are eye-level with the level of the water.
