Some Background 1980 Zimbabwe had the 2nd most sophisticated economy in sub-Saharan Africa and exported food. 1990s Corruption set in amongst the ruling party members. 2000 Mugabe loses a referendum that would allow him to be President for Life. 2000 Rapid economic decline and impoverishment set in.

  3. Aim of the Expo Trip • To identify 2-3 businesses to invest in: • Which may be undercapitalised or short on key skills • Which are otherwise viable • Have the potential to create employment and pay a social dividend

  4. Businesses Identified • New small scale maize mill • Domestic cleaning agent production • Metal fabrication businesses • ToughStuff market! • Dried instant relish production • Sugar cane farming restart

Key Leaders We Met With • Roy Bennett – Deputy Minister of Agriculture Designate • Leonard Tsumba – Chairman of C.A.B.S. and former Reserve Bank Governor • Eddie Cross – Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office • Dave Coltart – Minister of Education, Sport & Culture • John Bell – Senior Pastor of a large metropolitan church
