Ideally 1200 hours for proficiency • Ideally 5000 hours to be fully bilingual • High school, 300-400 hours • In Core French, we have to be realistic • more parents accept that a Core French program will not produce a functionally bilingual student, but that something less than functionally bilingual is still a worthwhile goal
