  2. Framework • The Atlantic Canada Framework for Essential Graduation Learnings • provides a framework of knowledge, skills and attitudinal outcomes which all graduating students are expected to achieve. • New Brunswick, Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island

  3. Mission Statement The mission of public education is to enable and encourage every individual to acquire, through lifelong learning, the knowledge, skills and values necessary for personal growth and the development of society.

  4. Essential Graduation Learnings (EGL’s) • knowledge, skills and attitudinal outcomes which all graduating students are expected to achieve in the following areas. • Aesthetic Expression • Citizenship • Communication • Personal Development • Problem Solving • Technological Competence

  5. General Curriculum Outcomes (GCO’s) • Each Subject has a Foundation Document • GCO's form the basis of the outcomes document • constitute a starting point for curriculum development • identify key components of the discipline

  6. Science GCO’s • Under the following headings • Science, technology, society and the environment (STSE) • Knowledge • Skills • Attitudes

  7. Technology GCO’s • Under the following headings • Nature of Technology • Technological Problem Solving • Technological Impact • Technological Literacy • Lifelong Learning • Technological Communications.

  8. Key Stage Curriculum Outcomes (KSCO’s) • Outcomes that students should have achieved by the end of Grade: • Three • Six • Nine • Level 3 – Grade 12

  9. Specific Curriculum Outcomes (SCO’s) • Specific outcomes by grade level (K-6) • done for each individual subject and/or • selected as a program for some subjects • Specific module outcomes (7-9) • Specific course outcomes (LI-LIII)

Example • Communication • Graduates will be able to use the listening, viewing, speaking, reading and writing modes of language(s) and mathematical and scientific concepts and symbols, to think, learn and communicate effectively • Provincial Curriculum Outcomes • Social Studies – students will be able to organize information garnered from various sources, including maps, charts, graphs, globes, print and media texts, and the arts • Music – students will demonstrate understanding of the use of language as lyrics for songwriting.
