  1. Malaria in Niger Project Fayadh 6D

  2. My Health Issue • My health issue to address is the DALY, or the disability adjusted life year of malaria in these countries. I believe Niger needs financial aid from the UN to fight against malaria. The disability-adjusted life year (DALY) is a way of measuring the disability rate of a country. Basically is is the actual estimated number of how many people are disabled in a fixed population in a time, usually annually.

  3. The Two Reasons • The two reasons that I chose Niger was because I know that it is a poor country and that it needs financial support for many reasons, including malaria. • The second reason is that one of my best friends are from Niger.

  4. My Country • Niger

  5. My Countries to Compare to • Algeria • Libya • Chad

  6. The Malaria in These Countries This is the level of the DALY of malaria per 100,000 in 2002.

  7. A Chart to Show

  8. A Chart to Show As you see, Niger’s DALY is huge compared to Algeria.

  9. As You Can See • Niger has a much higher DALY than some of its surrounding countries, like Algeria and Libya, which both only have an estimated 10 and below, while Niger has a estimated 3500 and up.

  10. Emotional Impact • The shocking bit: Niger’s life expectancy is 48 years as of 2002. Our DALY is for 100000 people annually, also as of 2002. If the result is 3500, this means that 3500 years of life have been wasted per 100000 people in Niger due to malaria.

  11. Conclusion • I believe that this is enough evidence for you to believe that Niger is in need of financial support. Niger needs it.
