  1. Wilderness First Responder, W-EMT Module Course

  2. Wilderness Medicine Outfitters WFR/WEMT module course uniquely combines all of the EMT skills and knowledge for the WFR student. In 2007, The Academy of Wilderness Medicine rated WMO's course as having the most wilderness medical content of any courses it has rated. WMO’s course exceeds DOT First Responder curriculum with a wilderness emphasis - Great for the self-sufficient active back country person who hikes an hour from town or days in the wilderness. This is the required training for the professional guide in most all categories. The current EMT will find this is a good review with the majority of the course oriented toward wilderness protocols, improvisation and long-term transport that the EMT is not trained for. All WMO WFR/WEMT students are required to take the following sessions even though up to 8 hr may be missed: Advanced airway session, Anaphylaxis session, oxygen session, wound closure session and the CPR sessions unless they have a 6 months old or newer CPR professional level card. There is a fee to make up these sessions if missed. All non WMO recerts are recommended to take Advanced airway session, Anaphylaxis session, oxygen session, wound closure session and the CPR sessions unless they have a 6 months old or newer CPR professional level card.

  3. Earlier this evening, I was the first responder at a motor vehicle accident here in Denver. I drove around the corner and traffic was obviously diverting around a damaged vehicle with an occupant - no one attending to the victim as yet. I pulled over and grabbed my kit out of the back (still carry it always even though my WFR is several years outdated) and went to the vehicle occupant. She was verbal though shaken and the air bags were deployed. I checked the c-spine as well as I could and she seemed to not be experiencing any neck pain (though some chest pain) so I helped her out of the car and was her advocate until the ambulance showed up about 10 minutes later. Fortunately more advanced care was near by so there wasn't much for me to do, but it was apparent that when I arrived the 10 or so people standing around did not know what to do as they were not doing anything to render care to the patient. I am reminded how important it is to maintain one's training because you never know when it will be needed. Thanks Carl. Ed Reed - Safety Engineer Professional Rescuer CPR is included in the WFR / WEMT classes at no additional cost. WFR / WEMT is offered in two formats: 1.
