Warm-up for 1/5 Directions: What unit would you use to measure these? • An ant • Salt • Periods of American history • The temperature of water • Periods of the Earth’s history • The distance marathoners run • The width of your eraser • The temperature of the air • A small amount of dirt • The width of yarn • Hint: Centennial is NOT a unit of measurement!

  5. Warm-up for 10/15/06 • Find two new words, each with a different root from this week • Write a flash card for each word and its definition • Do each of your words have meanings that match the root’s definition?

  6. Warm-up for 11/16/05 Imagine that someone has asked you to create a centennial holiday so that people 100 years from today would celebrate it. If you could create your own holiday, what would you celebrate? Be imaginative! Write a T-chart in your spiral for this with three (yellow) reasons why you’d choose this holiday (green).

  7. Warm-up for 11/17/05 • Review your roots, words, and definitions quietly until we begin the quiz • Make sure to review your NEW words, too! • Your notes must be completely stowed in your backpack before the quiz is passed out
