  2. Around the world, jurisdictions are exploring how to transform students' learning Purpose is to better reflect our knowledge-driven globalized world.

  3. SHIFT 1Less centered on the system, more focused on the student Students are the center of all decisions Teachers are better able to meet diverse learning needs Redesigned curriculum means more personalized learning opportunities for students

  4. SHIFT 2Less content focused, more competency focused Competencies are interrelated knowledge, skills and attitudes that can be applied to particular contexts There will be meaningful connections among the subjects in the curriculum

  5. SHIFT 3From “prescriptive curriculum with limited flexibility” to “more opportunities for local decision making and greater depth of study” Fewer outcomes and less redundancy across subjects More student and teacher choice, engagement and opportunities for hands on learning

  6. SHIFT 4Changes to Assessment as new curriculum is introduced The foundation is numeracy and literacy A diverse approach to evaluating learner competencies

  7. SHIFT 5Less print based curriculum and more digital delivery Harness the power of technology The interrelationship between pedagogy, curriculum and technology Greater flexibility so that learning can be any time, place or pace.

  8. SHIFT 6Less ministry-led development, more collaborative and co-development with partners and stakeholders In the past, ministry developed curriculum was reviewed by stakeholders Now curriculum will be “co-created” through prototyping activities

  9. SHIFT 7Less sequential development, more synchronous development More opportunities for interdisciplinary learning Resources and assessments will be co-created, in French and English
