  2. Janice Bailey Nicowski, a native of Marlinton, West Virginia, began art studies while still a high school student by attending summer workshops at Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After graduating in 1964, she attended Concord College, Athens, West Virginia and completed a Bachelors of Art Education in 1971 at St. Mary's College, St. Mary's City, Maryland. In 1979, she attended The University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and earned a Masters in Art Education in 1980 from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia.

Janice's secondary art teaching career began in Maryland at Calvert High School from 1972-74 and continued in Virginia where she served as art instructor from 1974-75 for Lexington High School, Virginia. She then taught at Goochland High School, near Richmond, Virginia, served as chairman of the art department from 1976-89, and worked with the talented and gifted program. Janice became Regional Director for the Virginia Art Education Association in 1984 and, in 1985, while serving as the National Art Education Association's Southeastern Region's Secondary Director, was awarded the N.A.E.A. Outstanding Service Award.

  4. Janice's professional art exhibits have included an invitational exhibit at Charles County Community College in Maryland, a one-man show at the Anderson Gallery in Richmond, Virginia, "Art With A Southern Drawl" in Mobile, Alabama, and "Under The Sun", Customs House in Key West, Florida.

  5. Her recent commissions include a life-size sculpture for Lazzaroni's Lakeside Restaurant, Cassadaga, New York and a sculpture in the private collection of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Straus, Naples, Florida. Janice's travels have greatly influenced her art. She has visited Southeast Asia, China, Borneo, New Zealand, Australia, Turkey, South and Central America, and East and Western Europe.

  6. Her energetic and flamboyant creative style - often spiced with humor - conveys joy, the love of people, and a deep appreciation of cultural diversity.
