Introductions • Mrs. Kennedy • CountrySide resident; both of my girls attended Algonkian • Empty Nesters; just celebrated our 32nd Wedding Anniversary • Aubrey ~ English Teacher at John Champe HS; got married last year • Madeline ~ Student at VT in the 4th year of the Architecture Program • From Arlington, VA • Undergraduate Degree in Elementary Education from Bridgewater College • Master’s Degree in Reading from GMU; Certified as a Reading Specialist • 30th year in LCPS • Mrs. Williamson

  3. Daily Schedule • Arrival • Announcements & Morning Meeting • Power Up (strategic intervention time) • Language Arts (whole group & small group) • Lunch/Recess • Specials • Snack • Recess • Math (whole group & small group) • Dismissal

  4. Lunch • We eat lunch at 10:20 in the cafeteria. • Please make sure that your child either has a packed lunch from home, or is prepared to buy a school lunch. • If you have any questions about Free and Reduced Lunch, cash payments, or how to prepay for lunch; please contact the school office.

  5. Specials • Art (Thursday) • Music (Tuesday & Thursday) • P.E. (Monday, Wednesday & Friday) – Please have your child wear tennis shoes on P.E. days. • Library (Tuesday) – Please return your child’s library book on, or before, our library day. • SEARCH (every other Wednesday) • Counseling (every other Monday)

  6. Instructional Areas • Report Card (Phoenix) We will review the kindergarten report card at the 1st quarter conference. • PALS, DRA, VKRP – LCPS assessments • 9 Week Plans will be posted on the Algonkian Kindergarten Webpage.

  7. Conferences • 1st Quarter Kindergarten Conferences (student-led) are held in November. • I will be contacting you in October to schedule your child’s conference.

  8. PBIS – Positive Behavior Intervention Support • We are a PBIS school. • Students earn Golden Tickets for displaying the 4 Rs: • Respect • Responsibility • Relationships • Ready • -Mr. Blubaugh pulls 1 ticket per grade level from the school’s collection of Golden Tickets, each Friday on morning announcements. When a child’s name is drawn, they are in the Bobcat Club!

  9. Book Bag • Please put your child’s full name on their book bag. • Please check your child’s book bag daily. • Please use the large compartment of the book bag only.

  10. Birthdays • Birthday Box • LCPS has food-free classrooms. • Stickers, pencils, erasers, etc. for the class on your child’s birthday are welcome.

  11. Daily Snack No peanuts please. Please pack a healthy snack, that your child will eat. We have our afternoon snack in the classroom. Please feel free to label your child’s snack, so it is not confused with their lunch.

  12. Homework Daily Reading & Classroom Projects

Classroom/School Procedures • Please inform both the office and your child’s teacher of any changes in personal information (phone number, address, etc.) • Any change in your child’s transportation requires a written and signed note. • Visitors must always sign in at the office and wear a visitor’s pass while in the building. • Students will only be released through the office. • Please keep your child home if they are sick. • Please call the Algonkian Absentee Line (571-434-3241), if your child will be absent from school. • Please label everything!

Classroom Clothing • Our classroom is typically freezing! • You may wish to layer your child’s clothing. • Please keep a labeled sweater, or sweatshirt, in their backpack. • You are welcome to keep a complete change of clothing for your child in their backpack. It is helpful if you put it in a Ziploc bag labeled with your child’s name.

  15. Bus Expectations • Algonkian’s bus drivers are amazing! • We cannot address bus issues, as they occur outside of our area of supervision. • Please contact the main office about any bus questions, or incidents.

  16. Kindergarten Supplies • Thank you for your support in helping us keep our classroom stocked. • We share all supplies, except folders and notebooks. • Water bottle with your child’s name on it

  18. Dismissal • Please fill out a transportation form for your child. • If your child is a walker, or car-rider, I will show you where your child will be dismissed at 2:40.

  19. Open House • We are so excited to meet our new kindergarten friends! • 9:00-10:00 on Wednesday, August 21st in our classroom (Room 6) • Please see both teachers. • Look around the room with your child. • Find an activity at one of the tables to do. • Note: You do not need to stay for the whole hour.
