  1. Wondering what Causes Tooth Sensitivity? Here are the Reasons! Victims of tooth sensitivity usually have those ‘ouch’ moments when they brush or floss, or while having their favourite frozen pudding. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to put up with pain. Dentists explain that there are certain measures to reduce them. Here are the --- major causes of tooth sensitivity. 1. Forceful Brushing: One of the reasons for tooth sensitivity arises from brushing with too much force. Doing so can cause the protective layers in your teeth to gradually wear down, thereby exposing the tubules or canals that lead to dental nerves. As these tubules are subjected to hot & cold foods, tooth sensitivity will be the end result. 2. Consumption of Acidic Foods: Dentists explain that when the tubules are exposed, acidic foods such as pickles, tomato sauce, lemon, grapefruit will cause pain. Hence, it is better not to rely upon them until you are relieved of pain. 3. Too Much Usage of Tooth Whitening Toothpaste: Most toothpaste that offer tooth whitening functionalities contain certain chemicals, which teeth might be sensitive to. You can obtain help from a dentist and see if your toothpaste is to blame. Consider switching toothpastes if that’s the case. 4. Grinding of Teeth: It’s high time you need to know that grinding your teeth can wear down your enamel. This leads to the exposure of the middle layer of your tooth (dentin) that has the tubules leading to dental nerves. The best way to control teeth grinding is by using a mouth guard. Your dentist can assist you with custom made mouth guards to control tooth grinding. 5. Gum Disease:

  2. Patients having gum diseases also face the risk of tooth sensitivity. If you have gingivitis or gum disease, dentists will suggest you a procedure of sealing your teeth while offering you the treatment for the disease. 6. Usage of Mouthwash: Just like tooth whitening toothpaste, certain mouthwash products also has alcohol and other special chemical ingredients that can cause tooth sensitivity to some. The condition can be even worse when the dentin is exposed. To eliminate this problem, dentists recommend using neutral fluoride rinses or to skip rinsing temporarily. 7. Cracked Tooth: Chipped or cracked tooth also leads to tooth sensitivity and pains. In this case, your dentist will evaluate your condition and offer you the suitable treatment for you, such as cap or extraction of tooth. 8. You’d Undergone Dental Procedure: It is common for all to experience tooth sensitivity, immediately after undergoing a dental procedure. Tooth sensitivity might occur post procedures such as root canal, extraction, or crown/implant placements. Pay attention to making regular visit to your dentist who’d help you through it. Tooth sensitivity can be an annoying issue for everyone facing it. However, with the help of your dentist, anyone can combat this ordeal.
