  2. Adept • Adjective • Very skilled, able, or proficient • He is adept in the art of disguises.

  3. advocate • Noun • One who acts in support or defense of a person or cause.

  4. Aesthetic • Adjective • Pertaining to what is beautiful or tasteful

  5. Anachronism • Noun • Something out of its correct chronological or historical order. The most famous example of anachronism comes from Act 2 Scene 1 of William Shakespeare’s play “Julius Caesar”: “Brutus: Peace! Count the clock. Cassius: The clock has stricken three.”

  6. Anecdote • Noun • A short account of an interesting or humorous incident • Example: Mrs. White’s duck story

  7. apprehensive • Adjective • Uneasy, anxious, or fearful about the future.

  8. arrogance • Noun • An offensive display of self-importance or superiority; over-bearing pride

  9. Boorish • Adjective • Crude, coarse, and clumsy in behavior • Example: Mayor Moran was a rather boorish woman especially in the treatment of the working class.
