  1. WELCOME SOPHOMORES!September 2, 2014 DO NOW: Please complete the Student Information Sheet quickly, accurately & neatly.

  2. 9/2/14 • Learning Goal: I will learn how to become a member of a writing community. • Learning Objective: I can write a 1 + page letter stating my expectations of ELA 10 as well as reflect on myself as a learner.

  3. SUMMER READING LOGS • Take out your The Fault in Our Stars reading log. • Collect! • You will be writing an essay on the novel, so if you haven’t finished reading it, you have until Friday.

  4. CLASS WORK • Read my letter to you. • Flip it over and read the Lap Top contract. • Write down any questions on a Post-It. • Answer Questions. • Write a Letter of Introduction to me.

  5. Letter of Introduction • On loose-leaf paper, please write a MULTIPLE PARAGRAPH letter including the following: • 1. Date • 2. Salutation (Dear Mrs. Maurice,) • 3. Tell me about yourself as a person and student. • 4. What are your strengths as a reader/writer? • 5. What are your weaknesses as a reader/writer? • 6. What should I expect from you? • 7. What do you expect from me, as your teacher? • 8. Closing (Sincerely,) & Signature-so I can read it!

  6. EXIT SLIP Tell me one of your fears, confusions or worries about Oak Park High.

  7. Happy Wednesday! 9/3/14 DO NOW: Describe your ideal classroom (teacher, students, environment, etc). 1 paragraph + *COLLECT LETTER & LAPTOP CONTRACT

  8. 9/3/14 & 9/4/14 • Learning Goal: I will learn the norms & expectations in this class. • Learning Objective: I can identify specific behaviors that reflect OPHS norms.

  9. Class Work • Brainstorm a list of specific behaviors that are O (on-task), P (positive), H (Helpful) & S (Safe) as a group. • Report out and add behaviors to posters. • Sign Social Contract. • Review Syllabus Jigsaw style. • RETURN SIGNED SYLLABUS MONDAY!

  13. 9/4/14 • Learning Goal: I will learn a poem generating strategy. • Learning Objective: I can write a 10 line poem about my name.

  14. CLASS WORK • Review Syllabus Jigsaw style • Complete Poetry Pre-Unit Assessment • “My Name” poem due TUESDAY • Review what else is due Monday (Bring a special artifact or photo to class).

  15. HAPPY FRIDAY! 9/5/14 DO NOW: What special artifact or photo are you thinking about bringing on Monday? Explain why it’s so special to you. 1 paragraph

  16. HAPPY FRIDAY! 9/5/14 Take out your signed Lap Top contract and your signed syllabus if you have them. COLLECT!

  17. 9/5/14 • Learning Goal: I will learn how to become a part of a writing community. • Learning Objective: I can decorate my Writer’s Notebook, front & back, reflecting people, places, things, words, etc that represent me.

  18. CLASS WORK • Begin decorating WNB-Cut out words, pictures, phrases or anything that represents you! • Make sure the front & back are decorated by Monday 

  19. REMINDERS! You have a lot to bring with you on Monday! Decorated Writer’s Notebook-if you need supplies see me afterschool Signed Syllabus & Lap Top contract A special artifact or photo Final Draft of “My Name” poem TUES-if you can’t type and want construction paper, see me afterschool.
