  1. The Dead Sea • Dead Sea started its formation millions of years ago with the forming of the Great Rift, also known as the Syrian-African Rift. • Original source of water was the Mediterranean Sea.

  2. Salt n Stuff • Once the Mediterranean Sea Connection closed off, leaving behind what eventually became a salt bed 2-4 miles thick. • The Dead Sea has a salinity of 30 percent, nearly 10 times that of the Mediterranean.
