  2. 9/10/2013 SS-3 GCF & LCM

  3. Flashback… • Factors:numbers you can multiply together to get products Ex.1: 1,2,3,4,6,12 are factors of 12 • Common factor- a factor that is shared by 2 or more numbers Ex.2: 15 and 18 15: 1,3,5, 15 18: 1,2,3,6,9,18

  4. BrainPop • “Factoring”

  5. GREATEST Common Factor- GCF- the largest of the common factors 2 Methods: 1. List all the factors 2. Use prime factorization- (factor trees) Prime Numbers: can be divided evenly only by 1 and itself

  6. Example 1: List all factors Find the GCF of 16 and 24 Factors of 16: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16 Factors of 24: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24 The GCF of 16 and 24 is 8.

  7. 2. Use prime factorization 12 24 32 The GCF of 12, 24, and 32 is 4.

  8. Toni, Max, Nicole, and Julia have 14 Laffy Taffies and 21 lollipops. They want to make candy bags with the same number of each type of candy in each bag. What is the greatest number of bags they can make? 7 Bags

  9. Your Turn! Find the GCF of set of numbers. A. 28 and 42 using the list method B. 20, 32, 36 using the prime factorization method A.) 14 B.) 4

  10. Least Common Multiple- LCM- the least number that is a multiple of two or more whole numbers

  11. To find a LCM of a set of numbers- • Use the list method Find the LCM of 4 and 8 4: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24 8: 8, 16, 24, 32, 40,

  12. Ryan, Zach, Natalie, and Anjie are painting a design that contains two repeating patterns. One pattern repeats every 8 inches. The other pattern repeats every 12 inches. In how many inches will the two patterns begin at the same place? 24 inches

  13. Exit Ticket

  14. 2 1.) Find the GCF of 12, 18, 26 Right Neighbor: Prime Factorization Left Neighbor: List Method 2.) Find the GCF of 8 and 14 Right Neighbor: List Method Left Neighbor: Prime Factorization LCM 3.) 5 and 6 4.) 4, 5, and 10 2 30 20
