If we combine the two, we get some of the most popular pilgrimage sites, located at some of the finest looking settings that are led by adventurous treks or routes. Such sites are not just popular with the pilgrims but also with the trekkers for an outstanding adventure they offer en route. Trekkers and pilgrims from around as well as outside the country visit these places for their own rewards. We get you 5 of the most popular Hindu Pilgrimage sites that also have the most scenic locations. 1.Kedarnath With the kind of aura that this pilgrimage has in India, it would not be wrong to call it the ‘mother of all Hindu pilgrimage sites’! The Kedarnath Temple at an exhilarating altitude of 3553 meters is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one among the most revered Char Dham Yatra of Hindus. A 14-kilometer long trek from Gaurikund will take you to this magnificent temple that is surrounded by snow-covered mountains on all sides. 2.Amarnath Another popular Hindu pilgrimage dedicated to Lord Shiva is the Amarnath Cave in the states of Jammu and Kashmir. The pilgrimage site is not just situated at an incredible height of 3888 meters but is also regarded as one of the most difficult pilgrimage sites to reach. It takes 4 days and a complex stretch of 45kms to finally reach Amarnath Cave that is open to the travelers for a short while in the months of July and August only. The site is covered in snow for the most part of the year. 3.Muktinath Temple One of the world’s highest temples at an altitude of 3710 meters, the famous Muktinath Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu who is regarded as the lord of salvation here. The temple is religiously significant to both Buddhists and Hindus and is located at the foot of Thorong La Mountain Pass in the Mustang District of Nepal. Nestled between the snow-covered Annapurna Range on one side and Tibetan plateau on the other, the temple is a Pagoda style structure and a site to behold. For Hindus, the temple is one among 108 Vaishnava Shrines and several thousand take up the Muktinath Yatra and flock to the site every year to achieve ‘Mukti’, ‘Nirvana’ or ‘Salvation’. 4.Hemkund Sahib

  2. Another Hindu pilgrimage that has a mesmerizing location is the Hemkund Sahib, the highest Sikh Gurudwara at 4329 meters in the Garhwal district of Himalayas. The site gets its name from the Hemkund Lake, one with pristine waters that flows near the gurudwara and adds to the landscape of the location. The site is significant for the pilgrims and the trekkers alike. The Valley of Flowers that is a UNESCO world heritage site and is also close to the Gurudwara forms another major attraction for the trekkers. 5.Phugtal Monastery If you are looking for a divine experience whether as a trekker or as a pilgrim, you must visit the Phugtal Monastery in Zanskar in Ladakh.
