  5. In pairs, discuss the following questions: • What course are you studying and in which Faculty? • What would you like to change about it? • What are the biggest challenges facing students in your Faculty today? • What are the biggest challenges facing students at Cambridge today?

  6. What do you think the purpose of the student rep is? • What do you think some of the tasks will be? • What skills do you think you will need and develop as a rep? • How do you think being a rep will benefit you?

Purpose • To continuously improve the student learning experience in partnership with the institution and student association by helping create solutions to problems. • To represent your fellow classmates’ views and opinions on all matters relating to learningandteaching. • To provide both positive and negativefeedback to staff. • To act as a communication channel between staff and students.

  9. How do you go about it? • Introduce yourself to your class. • Gather student opinion. • Provide feedback to staff and students. • Present student views at meetings. • Attend meetings. • Speak to people outside of meetings. • Develop solutions to issues. • Pass issues onto students association or CUSU. • Contribute to institutional activities.

  10. Basically, shape policies that run this 800-year old institution and leave your mark!

Students can take charge of their education experience and influence the outcomes of teaching and learning • More meaningful student participation in the process of giving feedback and identifying best practice through nominations process • Develop a stronger partnership between students, Faculties, the central University and CUSU • Invigorate and strengthen the Student Rep network – through the Student Steering Committee

  16. We need Student Reps (Faculty, School, Course, Year Reps, and College Academic Affairs Officers) to join the Student Steering Committee • Opportunity to: • Determine what criteria we will select for with Academics on the Steering Committee • Ownership over the design of the Awards and the Award Ceremony • Publicity • Be recognised by the Higher Education Academy, National Union of Students, CUSU and Cambridge University for your contribution!
