  1. Moral Dilemma! Right or Wrong?

  2. A Matter of Conscience... It happened during the holidays. I was round Joanna’s and we were mucking about, throwing a tennis ball at each other in the living room. Joanna threw the ball and it missed me and hit the vase of her mother’s that was on the table. The vase fell on the floor and broke!...

  3. Joanna shrieked. “What am I going to do? She’ll kill me, she really will. You know how strict she is. I’ll be grounded for at least a fortnight and she’ll stop my pocket money.” She was really freaking out. It was then that I made my big mistake. I told Joanna I would cover for her and tell her mum I did it. So when Mrs Jenkins came back from shopping, I told her I'd tripped over the dog and knocked the vase off the table.

  4. I’m not sure she believed me and though she told me not to worry because it was an old vase anyway. I couldn’t help feeling terrible, because I was lying to her. It’s been on my conscience ever since. Whenever I go round Joanna’s now and her mum’s there I feel awful. I’ve told Joanna that I can’t get it off my mind. But all she says is “It’s no big deal, Jack. Forget it.” But I can’t.

  5. Class discussion... • Do you think Jack should tell Mrs Jenkins the truth? • How do you think Joanna would react if he did? • Should they have told the truth in the first place? • And WHY?

  6. Which is the most serious? • On the next slide is a list of actions which most people would agree are wrong. Study the list and decide which you think are most serious. Start by drawing a scale point and ranking them on it. Extremely serious Very serious Serious Not very serious Trivial

  7. Action Lists • Stealing • Name-Calling • Cruelty to animals • Riding on a bus without paying • Swearing • Mugging • Taking drugs • Killing someone • Bullying • Blackmail • Vandalism • Lying

  8. Are willing to share your views? BUT YOU MUST... Respect other peoples points of view even if it doesn't match yours. Allow others to talk and you listen. Leave the discussion in the classroom
