  1. Photography Tips Some things to remember when taking photos All photos in this slideshow are courtesy of http://digital-photography-school.com/

  2. Check Your Background A very simple concept that can enhance an image is to check out the background of a shot to check for clutter or distraction.

  3. Hold the Camera Straight This is something small but makes a big difference. Look at the base of the window sill in the background. The camera was tilted when this picture was taken.

  4. Holding the Camera One of the common problems that many new digital photographers have is ‘camera shake’ where images seem blurry – usually because the camera was not held still enough while the shutter was depressed. Even the smallest movement of the camera can cause it. It is tempting to hold the camera with one hand, but DON’T!

  5. Fill the Frame This is important when you want to emphasize the subject of your photo such as a person. Don’t be afraid to zoom in and capture the detail of the person, for example. vs

  6. Fill the Frame This is also important when taking pictures of things or scenes.

  7. Fill the Frame So how do you do this? Use the optical zoom function on your camera OR the best way is to use YOUR LEGS to position yourself for a closer shot if possible.

  8. Take Lots of Photos Unlike the cameras that were around when your parents were growing up, we now have digital cameras that can store thousands of pictures. Experiment with lots of different shots. You will have more to choose from when picking your best shots.

  9. Find a Point of Interest Always ask yourself “What is the focal point of this picture?” and remember the rule of thirds and hot spots when positioning your focal point.

  10. Find a Point of Interest Think about what your subject is and what will draw the eye of the viewers looking at this picture?

  11. Rule of Thirds The most important thing is the rule of thirds.
