Precast shop drawings are prepared at the final stage of a precast building project and consist of the precast construction and production drawings which shall be used by the precast manufacturer and the contractor to fabricate and erect the precast structure. The precast shop drawings are based on the contract documents and should show the exact geometry and specifications that are required for the precast production, transportation, handling and erection. The process of preparing the precast shop drawings is called precast detailing and it is an essential part of precast construction. Errors in the precast shop drawings can cause difficulties at the construction site which might escalate the building costs. The erection plans and elevations contain all the precast concrete member piece marks with fully dimensioned size and shape of each member. The location of each precast member should be shown respect to the building lines or column lines and finished floors, and details and locations of all the connections. Furthermore all joints and openings between precast members and any other building portions should be identified. The precast erection plans show the precast members at each floor looking down and they are useful for indicating structural precast concrete members like beams, slabs, columns and walls. Erection elevations are views that look directly at the structure and are usually taken from the outside looking in. Sections and details must be marked on the layout plans and elevations. Erection details are blow up sections which show all the information to make connections between precast concrete elements or to other structures. Precast embed plans and anchor bolt plans are prepared to show the location of embeds and anchors placed inside the foundation or structure for the purpose of connecting the precast elements. 5. WBK Engineering Services Pvt. Ltd. Precast production drawings – form details Precast production drawings are used in the precast plant to fabricate the precast concrete members. These drawings should show details of each precast member including all the specifications, connection details, dimensions, inserts, reinforcement details, finishing etc. The precast element form detail drawings (piece drawings) shows the precast piece in the position from which the precast plant crew will view it or cast it (casting view). Various views like bottom view, top view and side views have to be added on the drawing. Sections and blow up details have to be used to clarify any complicated areas. Inserts that are required for lifting and connections should be shown and provisions for services have to be specified. These drawings should have all the necessary information so that the precast production team can prepare the reinforcement cages which have to fit into the forms. Exact size and location of reinforcing bars and / or welded wire mesh has to be shown in plans, sections and elevations. Details should be prepared for clarification of areas with congestion of reinforcement.
