Precast 3D modeling and BIM Preparing a 3D computer model of your building is providing major advantages to the design team like clash checking capabilities and enhanced visualization. These advantages lead to error- free precast models and detail drawings. Furthermore it is possible to quickly model complex precast concrete structures in 3D which would be a very time consuming process if it had to be done with 2D drafting methods. From the 3D precast building models the design team can generate all the precast shop drawings and details.   3. WBK Engineering Services Pvt. Ltd. Building information modeling (BIM) Building information modelling (BIM) is a process where the building information is stored in 3D computer models. A BIM model is basically a virtual computer model which consists of virtual building components that are equivalent to the building components of the actual building. The virtual components have the same characteristics of their real counterparts and are the digital prototype of the physical building elements. BIM for precast detailing projects In building projects that follow a BIM design process the information consists of BIM models, prepared by various consultants according to a certain BIM protocol. The BIM models are generally exchanged in IFC format. These BIM models can be loaded as reference models in any kind of BIM software. Based on the input information the detailed precast 3D models can be prepared by the precast design team. After completion of the precast BIM models they will be used for coordination and clash checking purpose. The final precast BIM models shall include the exact shape of all the components including the services like ventilation, electrical and plumbing provisions. Ltd. 3D rebar modeling for precast With specialized software like Revit and Tekla it is possible to create accurate 3D rebar models of reinforced concrete and precast concrete structures. By using the 3D modelling software the design team can perform adequate clash checking with better visualization which leads to constructible rebar models. BIM precast housing example BIM processes can be used during the design and construction phase for precast housing projects constructed with large precast panels (walls and slabs). At the start of the precast detailing work the design team should receive the BIM models of all the relevant building components. This input information is generally prepared by various building consultants that specialize in a certain field of building design like the architect, structural engineer and the MEP design consultants. The precast detailers can then integrate all the relevant building components in the precast walls and slabs to create an accurate precast BIM model. The precast BIM model will be shared for the purpose of BIM coordination. After clash checking and approval from the client the precast detailing team can prepare the precast production drawings and erection drawings which will be generated from the precast BIM model.
