Banner Self Service Basics • Self Service = personalized access to your courses and your advisees’ records • Login to myWM (http://my.wm.edu) with your WMuserid and password • Select the Self Service tab and then Select Banner Self Service – OR –Click on the Banner Icon in the upper right corner. • Select Faculty The College of William and Mary  Banner 6.2 August 2005

  4. FERPA and Releasing Information • Directory Information • can be released to the public unless student has requested confidentiality • http://www.wm.edu/registrar/ferpa.php • Academic, Financial, Judicial/Honor Information • may not be discussed with anyone but the student or other College faculty/staff members with a need to know • exception – student submits specific permission for release (to the Dean of Students Office) and it is recorded in Banner The College of William and Mary  Banner 6.2 August 2005

Viewing Your Advisee List • From the Faculty Services menu, select Advisor Menu • Select Display Advisees • When prompted, select the appropriate term • Your list of advisees for the term selected will appear • You will see Freshman/Sophomore and Major advisees • Use the list to drill down for detailed information on each student The College of William and Mary  Banner 6.2 August 2005

  10. The Class Search • From the Faculty Services menu, select Summary Class Schedule (last menu item) • This is the same search that appears on the student Registration Menu as “Look Up Classes to Add” • When prompted, select the appropriate term • Select a subject • Subject is required! • Select multiple – Hold Ctrl key, click on each subject • Select all – Hold Shift key, click on first and last subject The College of William and Mary  Banner 6.2 August 2005

Using the Class Search, cont. • Select any other search criteria desired • Attribute Type = GERs, proficiencies, specific major requirements, instructor permission, special fees, etc. • A wildcard (%) can be used in any text field • Press Class Search button to submit query • Drill down on CRN in results for details such as: • seats available, prerequisites and corequisites, restrictions, attributes, catalog information The College of William and Mary  Banner 6.2 August 2005

  12. Degree Evaluation – a.k.a. CAPP • “Curriculum Advising & Program Planning” • Maintained by the Registrar’s Office and still partly under construction • Most undergraduate degree requirements programmed • 120 hours, GERs, proficiencies, etc. • All majors except a few interdisciplinary programs • Use Quick Reference Guide for instructions • Send any discrepancies to capp@wm.edu The College of William and Mary  Banner 6.2 August 2005

  13. Midterm Grades • From the Faculty Services menu, select AdvisorMenu • Select Student Active Registrations ALERT ! Name/ID of last student you viewed will be displayed unless you use ID Selection to change the student • If prompted, enter ID or search for advisee, and click Submit. • Midterm Grade is displayed in column 2 for each course • To view another student, use the Advisor Menu link (at the bottom of the page) • From the Advisor menu, use the ID Selection option The College of William and Mary  Banner 6.2 August 2005

Navigation Hints and Tips • Use quick links at the bottom of each page when available • Use the Display Advisees list to drill down to details • Student names do not display on all detail pages • Use Return to Previous link to get back to list • When using the ID Selection search: • Make sure to select radio button for Advisees • Less is more! Search by last name only • Use wildcard (%) in Last Name field to see all advisees The College of William and Mary  Banner 6.2 August 2005

  15. Navigation Hints and Tips • Inactivity Timeout in myWM = 30 minutes • Banner Self Service activity does NOT count toward the 30 minutes of inactivity. • Use links on the myWM Home tab to remain active. • Remember to logout The College of William and Mary  Banner 6.2 August 2005
