Eskom Academy of Learning • The main purpose is to close Eskom competency gaps by delivering the required training for Eskom employees and the learner pipeline • This is done through the Centre of Expertise and covers the following: • Engineering • Artisan, Operating & Maintenance • Operational Services • Project Management • Professional Services • Learning operation – Learning Management or Facilities

Eskom Leadership Institute • Mandate is to develop and execute a leadership strategy that will establish a requisite leadership brand. • To ensure that leadership development is aligned with the business strategy and our organisational values • To ensure individual and collective leadership effectiveness in achieving Eskom’s strategic imperatives • Since its establishment the Eskom Leadership Institute has developed: • A comprehensive leadership strategy and delivery framework • A leadership competency model and the systemic integration thereof into all leadership development processes, and an assessment framework • A business performance dialogue process that will enhance the overall organisation performance reporting and feedback practise

External Education and Training Programmes • Early childhood centres – assists by providing equipment, learning material and capacitating of educators. • Main objectives of the School Programmes are to:- • Increase the number of learners who pass matric with Mathematics & Science. • Build a pipeline of potential future Eskom bursars that will study science, engineering and technology • Act as a pilot for potential input to the Dinaledi Project • Act as a resource centre for other schools • Continuing to increase the number of schools in the programme across all the Provinces • Science Expo – Eskom is currently sponsoring this programme to encourage young scientists to develop innovative ideas

External Education and Training Programmes Cntd As part of the Eskom Foundation’s focus on education and skills development – they support the Further Education and Training (FET) programme by contributing to programmes that promote the employability of the youth and the building of a pipeline of technical skills. To date, the equipping of engineering workshops for 16 FET colleges has taken place in the Eastern Cape, Gauteng (Soweto), Mpumalanga, Free State, Northern Cape and KZN

External Education and Training Programme Cntd • Promote collaborative Research and Development on Eskom issues and sector related energy needs through:- • Tertiary Education Support Programme (TESP) • Existing sponsorships cover Renewable Energy/Energy Efficiency, • Material Sciences, Mechanical and • Maintenance Engineering. • Black Academic Development Programme – to develop black academics in Eskom Related Research Areas • Aligning sponsorships to develop pipeline skills (students) in specific areas of specialisation within the country – Masters and PHD • Small enterprises are supported through Enterprise development initiatives aimed at capacitating small enterprises and enabling them to develop, grow and compete in the formal economy - Contractor Academy

Way Forward - Integrated Planned Strategy to support Universities • To adopt schools around a university that will serve as a feeder for matriculants with science and mathematics • To increase the number of bursaries awarded to students studying within the different faculties, with a strong focus on programmes delivering skills for Eskom business • To increase the support for the newly established academic programmes that will increase the number of skills needed for energy sector, • To increase the contribution to the Research and Development initiatives that are beneficial to the South African economy and to Eskom strategic operations, i.e. Energy production R&D. • To establish a strong partnership with other SOC’s and institutions of higher learning by improving sustainable research, knowledge and skills transfers and skills base or output for the provinces and the energy sector.

Way Forward - Integrated Planned Strategy to support Universities Cntd • To encourage partnership between previously disadvantaged and advantaged institutions, and between levels of institutions of higher learning, i.e. Universities and FETs, through a structured set of criterion for funding • To contribute to institution of higher learning infrastructure development • To contribute to institutional capacity development initiatives, i.e. HR development within the specialised programmes key to Eskom and sector specific needs
