  6. 4. Bible • Genesis - The creation of the universe and mankind… • Time of Xt. • OT vs NT • Humanity is God’s creation • Commitment to human dignity • Man – created unto the image and likeness of God • Man – redeemed by Christ

  7. 5. The Role of AU • AU is a rendezvous of knowledge (an integrated knowledge). - Integrated knowledge (sciences & human values) - Morality of life. - Human values, moral involvements and the sensitivities of people. - The dignity of humanlife.

  8. 5. The Role of AU (cont’d) b) Catholic concept of man - The choice of our commitment is in accordance with the evidence of the truth of Christian Values -The values of the Gospel.

  9. 5. The Role of AU (cont’d) c) Many questions weface in life… - Catholic university education “is the book of options, of orientations for life. - It does not dispense us from research into concrete applications

The Role of AU (cont’d) d) Make Christ present in us and in the world in its academic aspect and in itssocial context. • This dynamism with a double polarity - one oriented towards vertical relationship (Christ and His Church), - the other towards horizontal relationship (man and his environment in academic world). - A balance between the two must be maintained.

  11. Conclusion: Our university can be Catholic in sofaras we are able to commit ourselves in this dynamic search and progressive giving of ourselves to Christ in this world. In all its practicalities…  Christian presence: not a ticket to a comfortable job.

Conclusion (cont’d) - Symbols we display - Place our allegiance to Christ in the forefront of our consciousness…  in activities we perform,  in priorities we choose,  in our respect for truth and beauty,…  in nurturing human potential (a gift from God)  in the pursuit of truth … - Christian presence is experiencing the love of God and obeying His commandment.
