Today’s Agenda: EQ (Essential Question): Why learn about the library? Learn about the library by watching a video. Learn how to check out books by lecture and slides. Find two books of your choice by using the catalog & noting them on the Library Information paper. Check out one of those two books at the circulation desk. Bring your ID card. Complete the EHS Map Activity.
Checking Out Library Books 1. Have your ID card, as always. 2. The total limit is 10 books and the length of checkout is 3 weeks. 3. Renewals (checking out the same book(s) again) are allowed. Please bring the book(s) to the circulation desk to renew.
Overdue Library Books 1. A book is overdue if it’s not returned or renewed in 3 weeks 2. Overdue notices are sent to you through your school email and through your Language Arts class. 3. If you receive one, please come to the library to renew, return or discuss the book listed on the notice.
What are 4 possible consequences of ignoring overdue notices? • No book checkouts • No buying EHS events tickets - Example: no dance tickets • Indebted notices home and office • No graduation activities.

Google Form Quiz on Your Chromebook: • Go to the EHS library website. • Click on the Library Quiz at the bottom on the right menu bar, 2nd to the last item on the menu bar. • Take the open note quiz. Correct any mistakes until you get 11/11.
OPAC Search Instructions • Partially close your chrome book (so it does not shut down yet so you don’t look at it). • Watch Teacher Librarian demonstration: Holocaust – subject Unbroken – title Carroll, Lewis - author
Search OPAC • Go to the EHS library OPAC webpage. • Type in a search term of your choice. • Click on the correct box – title, author, or subject. • Choose two books of interest – one fiction and one nonfiction. • Write down the information for a book of your choice. • Make sure the book is noted as Available so you can check it out today. • You may need to try multiple subjects, titles or authors to find both one fiction and one nonfiction book. The nonfiction book may be a different subject than the fiction book you choose. • Raise your hand when you are done for teacher check.
Find ONE of your two OPAC Books • Find your nonfiction or fiction book – your choice which one. • If you cannot find your first choice book, then find your second choice book. • Bring the book and your ID to the circulation desk to check it out. • Read and/or quietly discuss your book with the person sitting next to you. Closure 1. Discuss why the library is important – the EQ(Essential Question) Response with the person next to you. 2. Be prepared with an answer to share with your table and with the class.
