  3. General principles II • Role of the ESL • Provide a reason to move in to Explorer Scouts • Keep in touch with ‘feeder’ Troops • Role of the SL • Encourage Scouts to move on into ES • Notify DESA of 13.5 year old Scouts

  4. Components of the MiMo process • Develop a strategy • needs to be simple and practical • Implement the strategy • be prepared to make changes if it is not working • Review!

  5. Gathering Information

  6. What and from whom? • Details of potential ES from • GSL’s • SL’s • Need • names • ages • addresses/e-mail/telephone number • This is a DESA task

  7. Visible, attractive Explorer Scouting

  8. Need to be seen and heard • ES need to have a good profile in the District • good, active, balanced programme • media profile? • Send details of programmes to Troops and to potential ES • Visit all Troops in the District

  9. Making Contact

  10. The ‘Birthday Card’ • Send birthday card at aged 13 years • may be too early • May be better to agree mailing at specific times of years • September/January/March • send joining pack • details of ESU’s, programmes, personnel etc

  11. Welcome…to Explorer Scouts!

  12. This is down to ESL’s and Units • Make new recruits feel welcome • Make sure they get the opportunity to integrate into the Unit • Make sure the programme caters for all members

  15. Ingredients for success • A balanced programme • must be varied • must cover all programme zones • must offer opportunities for awards and badges • with a little bit of mentoring thrown in
