FOUNDED 1961 • MOVED TO WATERFRONT LOCATION 1995 • ACQUIRED THE PROTECTED CRUISER OLYMPIA AND THE BALAO CLASS SUBMARINE BECUNA 1996. • LIBRARY AND ARCHIVES WITH EXTENSIVE HOLDINGS PERTAINING TO REGIONAL MARITME HISTORY • COLLECTIONS OF MODELS, PAINTINGS AND ARTIFACTS. • 26,000 SQ. FT. OF GALLERIES • BOAT BUILDING SHOP • CLASSROOMS. THEATER, BALLROOM. • ACCESS TO THE DELAWARE RIVER AND A BOAT BASIN.

  4. MARITIME HISTORY PROVIDES A WINDOW INTO SCIENCE. OUR PROGRAMMING AND EDUCATION GOAL IS TO OFFER A COMPREHENSIVE VIEW OF OUR WATERSHED; INCLUDING ECOLOGY, BIOLOGY, COMMERCE AND ENGINEERING.

  5. OVER THE NEXT 5 YEARS WE ARE PLANNNING A FRESH INTERPRETATION OF ALL OUR GALLERIES AND SHIPS. THEY WILL BECOME MORE INTERACTIVE AND FUN. WE WILL USE OUR COLLECTIONS TO CREATE GREAT ENVIRONMENTS.

  6. WE WILL HAVE TWO MAIN THEMES: THE DELAWARE WATERSHED ITSELF; THE SCIENCE ATTACHED TO THIS WILL BE CENTERED ON THE LIFE IN THE RIVERS AND STREAMS. THE STORY OF THE AMERICAN NAVY BEGINNING WITH ITS FOUNDING IN PHILADELPHIA. HERE WE WILL FOCUS ON PHYSICS AND ENGINEERING.

  7. Founded in 1961. • Moved to the Philadelphia Waterfront 1995. • Acquired the Protected Cruiser Olympia and BaloaClassWW II Submarine Becuna 1996. • 22,000 Lineal Ft. of Archives • Extensive Art & Artifacts Collection • 30,000 Sq. Ft. of Galleries. • A Boat Building Shop

  8. IN ADDITION TO PROVIDING RESOURCES FOR SERIOUS SCHOLARSHIP THE MODERN MUSEUM SERVES AS A YOUNG PERSON’S ENTRY POINT INTO THE MARITIME WORLD. WE PROVIDE THE INSPIRATION AND EDUCATION THAT COULD LEAD TO A MARITME ACADEMY, A SCIENCE LAB, A HISTORY DEPARTMENT, OR AN ENGINEERING SCHOOL.
