  2. ALBRECHT DURER • Pronounced • AHL-BREKT DOO-RUHR • Born in Nuremberg, Germany on May 21, 1474. • He was 1 of 18 children • His father carefully trained him in the craft of making jewelry, but Albrecht decided at an early age to pursue a career as a painter.

  3. ALBRECHT DURER • When he was only 13 years old, he drew a self-portrait in which his genius and skill for detail are already evident. • Does the drawing look real to you? • A life long student, Durer was well educated in Math, Geometry, Latin and Literature.

VOCABULARY • Implied Texture • A way of painting so that if you were to touch the actual painting you would feel the texture (rough, smooth, course, soft) • Real Texture • Something that can be felt by touch This painting is called “Wing of a Roller” What do you think this would feel like if you touched it?

  5. YOUNG HARE • The title for this work is Young Hare. • Do you know what a hare is? • What colors has the artist used in this painting? • If you could touch the hare, how would it feel? Why do you think so? • Does this picture show the hare in its environment? • How has the artist made this hare look real? • Where might you see a hare like this?

  6. TODAY’S LESSONS • Choose a template: porcupine or lamb • You will add real texture to the template by gluing toothpicks or cotton balls. • If you finish early you can add a landscape background with markers. • Don’t forget to sign your artwork!
