Identification of At-Risk Students • Low MEAP/MME Scores (Level 3 or 4) [Plus One or More of the Following Factors] • History of school failures * Credit Deficiency * Behind Cohort Group In Course Content • Poor Attendance Record • Behavioral Problem, History of Suspensions • Disengagement from School, Low Expectations • Family Status At-Risk Factors *Family history of school failure/incarceration or substance abuse • Pregnant Teen or Teen Parent • Victim of Child Abuse/Neglect • Other Social/Personal Factors • Eligible for Free/Reduced Lunch

  3. Risk Ratio A risk ratio provides a consolidated measure representing the degree to which a student may be academically at risk of not graduating on time. The ratio considers the total number of academic factors. This ratio will be designed to identify the levels of at risk students to determine the case load for the Graduation Coach.

  4. Preliminary Requirements • Identification of targeted at-risk students determined at the start of the 2009-2010 school year for all students grades 7-12. • Student profiles created to identify all academic gaps, i.e., Pearson Benchmark/Inform data including MEAP/MME, attendance records, discipline records, etc. • Base line date set to establish benchmarks to measure progress.

Graduation Coach Initiatives Expectations GC’s will monitor progress of students through; • E2020 • Read 180 • MME/MEAP • End of Course Assessments • ACT/MME Prep Class • Attendance Data Base • Student Discipline Data Base • Departmental Tutorial Programs (assist in implementation where needed) • Parent Involvement • Teacher Input

  9. GRADUATION COACH • 3 Levels Of Coaching • Gold • Silver • Bronze

  10. Caseload Process • Identifying at-risk students using several criteria and deciding on students who will be more successful with minor accommodations (silver group) to more intense (gold group)

  11. Primary Group SelectionGold Caseload • Highest At-Risk Students that are identified • Student Interview • Parent Interview • Caseload Established In The Fall of 09 • No Open Enrollment Into Gold Membership

Gold CaseloadServices • State Supt. has asked all schools to provide intense services to a caseload of students at-risk of not graduating • These intense services will include: • Mentoring • One-on-one rapport • Weekly progress reports • Daily attendance checks • Tutorial assistance • Weekly home contact • Eventual job shadowing/college visits • Earned incentives • Community Interventions, if needed

  13. Secondary GroupSilver Caseload • Silver group: Bigger group of students • Majority of caseload will come from students behind in credits • Students who need extra support • Kids who are “on the bubble”

Bronze Caseload • Bronze caseload: Entire school community working together towards helping all students • MHS 09-10 School Goals • Mentoring • Academic Tutoring • Peer Tutoring • School Improvement Efforts • Staff survey will determine professional development needs • Student survey will educate and empower students to be a part of the Process

Other duties: • Work with staff and students enrolled in E- 20 20 and Read 180 • Work with core teachers to coordinate tutorial sessions • Provide parents with regular progress reports • Consistent communication with parents and teachers • Maintain meetings with student to monitor academic progress • Compile baseline data from staff and students to assist in determining professional development • Work directly with teachers to design improvement plans for caseload students

Referral Process For At Risk Students • Graduation coach services will be inaddition to the work the teacher, counselors, and assistant principals are providing not in place of. • Caseloads determined by assistant superintendent of secondary education and graduation coaches to maintain integrity of 31 a

  17. STAFF SURVEY • Purpose: • To Gather Base Line Data • Identify Areas of Strengths and Weaknesses • A Way To Share Successful Strategies With The Rest Of The Staff • Voluntary • Individual Answers Anonymous • Incentive: Staples Gift Card

SURVEY QUESTION REGARDING MENTORING • Would you be willing to serve as a mentor for a student who is already in one of your courses? • Volunteer • Graduation Coach Will Communicate To You The Need Of The Student Before You Give Final Agreement • Qualifying Question: Do I Care If Students Learn
