  7. The CMS Pre-shower Motivation Preshower (20cm) Signal Background  0  Silicon detectors lead TRACKER -15°C

  8. Greek Contributions to the CMS Pre-shower • The CMS Preshower Detector • 15 years of development & Construction • 4288 micromodules in 8 Dees • 600 micromodules made by I.N.P. • Close collaboration with Greek Industry 4500 hybrids assembled by PRISMA

  9. Greek Contributions to the CMS Pre-shower

  10. INP Computer Cluster – CMS GRID INP Cluster currently has ~ 100 CPUs ~ 25 Tbytes storage space Has been a Tier-3 site in the CMS Grid infrastructure until last year. Since the beginning of 2010, it operates as a local cluster, with all the CMS software fully operational – and serves the local users of the Institute.

  11. LHC Principal Goal : Explore a new energy/distance scale Dark matter My life as a boson SUSY partners Extra Dimensions Tiny Black Holes q-g plasma SM(t,b, QCD,E/W) … !!! UNEXPECTED!!!

  12. CMS Demokritos Physics - I • Test-Beam & Physics Tools development: • ECAL test-beam data analysis. • Development of π0 rejection algorithmsfor converted and unconverted photons. • ECAL Dead Channel recovery algorithms. • Physics Analyses at simulation level • FCNC decays of Top quarks, • SUSY search at LM4, • MSSM Higgs searches, • Little Higgs searches. • Physics Analyses on first CMS/LHC data : • Cross section measurement of W and Z in the electron channel (results shown in ICHEP) • Measurement of Zγ (ISR) production and TGC measurement

  13. CMS Demokritos Physics - II

  14. Summary - Outlook The CMS Group of Demokritos has made marked contributions to the construction of CMS in the areas of the Pre-shower detector & Trigger/DAQ as well as in the preparation of the software & Physics. Effort is currently shifting to physics exploitation of the CMS detector by analysing the first 3 pb-1 of data already delivered by the LHC. Most probably we ‘ll have 30 pb-1 by the end of 2010.
