  2. The National Context Science is a national priority that will be exempted from any Government spending cuts required by the recession. Britain's future is so dependent on science and technology that its budget will be ring-fenced. The downturn is an opportunity to “rebalance” the British economy away from financial services in favour of high technology, which will be critical to jobs and prosperity.

OurAims • Help create an educated and skilled workforce to meet the challenges of the future, particularly by developing and increasing pupil's performance in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. • Enable pupils in our schools to have opportunities to experience at first hand the fun, challenge and relevance of STEM subjects through active learning.

  7. in Gloucestershire What STEMworks Does Recruit, train and manage Ambassadors from industry and business Provide advice to schools on extra curricular STEM activities Receive requests from schools and link with business and offer support Run workshops, competitions and activities in schools ages 7 - 19 RemitTo improve the uptake of STEM subjects in Gloucestershire

  8. Ambassadors • 300+ Volunteers from business across Gloucestershire • Talks – engineers explaining how they use science and maths in their jobs. Cover health & Safety and Standards issues Competitions e.g Flying start – regular school visits explaining principles of flight Experts at debates, e.g. Energy – renewable / non-renewable energy. Careers Advice and support

  9. Primary Schools Knex and Primary Challenge Science or D/T practical project days. Computer control, KS2 revision, hire of equipment DATA logging with staff or pupils. Teacher In-service training.

  10. Secondary Schools Enterprise and Business Challenge days Science or Engineering focused project days. Ambassadors - talks, careers support CREST Awards Support for Diplomas
