  2. Hooves • Horse’s hooves are just like your finger nails. Horse’s hooves keep on growing. They have to be cut before they get too long but it does not hurt the horses.

  3. Noses • Horses are really good at sniffing things out. When they sniff something interesting their nostrils open wide.

  4. This book is Non Fiction

  5. What happens in the beginning • Horses live in fields or a stable. Their enemies in the wild are Lions, Bears and other meat eaters. Wild horses are scared of any movement. They also talk to each other by snorting, neighing and squealing.

  6. What happens in the middle • Adult horses bite off grass with their front teeth but they chew with their back teeth. Horses eyes are on the side of their head because it helps them see as much as they can see.

  7. What happens at the end • Horses need exercise to keep them fit. Shelby is going to take her horse B-Jay. Before she goes for a ride she brushes B-Jay so he is clean. It is called grooming. She cleans B-Jay hooves with a hoof pick. This gets out any stones or mud. Then her dad helps her put the saddle on and put the bridle on. Then she climbs on B-Jay and holds on to the reins and gently presses down on his back leg so he moves.

  8. Interesting words Blinker: A flap on a bridle to stop a horse from seeing sideways. Neighing: The sound made by a horse to talk to other animals and people. Nostril: An opening in the nose Tame:Kept by people as a pet or for work.

  9. What ages can read the book • I think that year 3 to year 6.

  10. Why you should read it • You should read this book because if you like horses and want to know about them, this is the book for you!
