INTRODUCTION • The main objective to provide an understanding and the skills to final year students in the process of designing and implementing research projects. • Each student will have the opportunity to choose the title after thorough discussion and approval by the assigned supervisor. Research topics must be related to the field of study in the Faculty. • This course is four credit hours which run for two semesters. At the end of the first semester, students will need to prepare a research proposal and will be given a grade of S. • In the second semester, students will conduct research, interpret data and write the final report and the final grade will only then be awarded. • Each student should at least have 6 meeting per semester with their SV (12 meeting for 2 semester) • The briefing session will be considered as 1 of the meetings and must be recorded

Guidelines for Proposal Writing • A proposal should contain; • Introduction • Introduction • Objective / Purpose of the study • Conceptual Framework Study. • Literature Review / Highlights of the Study • shall include any information pertaining to the research and information related to the topic of the project which is related with your research interests. • Methodology / Approach Study • part of the report that describes the design of the studies or the methods used in conducting the research.

  9. CHAPTER 1 : INTRODUCTION • Must have issues or research problem • Suitable research objectives • Must state the importance of study • Must state limitation of study • Definition of term used

  10. CHAPTER 2 : LITERATURE REVIEW • Your literature review must be relevant towards your research • Sum up previous research and try to relate to your research • Use the latest literature review for the study

  11. CHAPTER 3 : METHODOLOGY • Research design must suitable to your research • Clear methodology used and suitable • Sampling, research area and study material used • Data collection procedure is well explained

  12. CHAPTER 4 : DISCUSSION • Findings based on research objective • Theory application stated • Critical discussion regarding the research • Implication from data • Data authenticity

  14. PLAGIARISM • Plagiarism refers to the act of copying one's own work without acknowledging that one is doing so or without citing the original work. The material may be a single sentence / paragraph / section, or just parts of sentences joined with words alone. • When full citations or translations were made ​​directly, the quotation shall be stated in “.......” (designation or quotation marks) followed by the author's name, year and page number in parentheses.

FORMAT • 1) The final report should be typed on only one side of a sheet of 21 cm x 29 cm paper (A4) with a thickness of (70 to 80 grams, white bond paper). • 2) The report must be double-spaced and "left justified". However, for tables, long quotations, footnotes, and bibliographies, single spacing is allowed.

  16. 3) The size of the lettering should be no smaller than 10 point. Accepted font sizes: Microsoft word: Arial 11pt and 12pt Times New Roman, • 4) Every chapter title should be typed in capital letters in the middle of the page. Sub-headings should be typed according to their title.. • 5) The spacing for the title in each chapter should be 6.5cm (2.5 ") at the top, 4 cm (1.5") to the left and 2.5 cm (1 ") on the right and bottom. The space between the title and the first line of each chapter is six lines.

  17. 6) All posts including page numbers must be at least 2.5 cm (1 ") on the right side, top and bottom and 4 cm (1.5") on the left, within this margin. • 7) The first line of each paragraph should be indented five spaces), except for the abstract, subheadings and the list of references). • 8) The number of pages should be placed at the right edge of the top, bottom or in the middle of the top side. All page numbers should be in the same place

  18. 9) Start the parts listed below on a seperate new page : (Complete list please refer the guidelines) • (a) Cover Page (refer Appendix C) • (b) Title page (refer Appendix D) • (c) Examples of confirmation page (refer Appendix E) • 10) The report draft and the final report should be typed using a computer. All the conditions described above must be followed.

  19. 11) The total word count for this report should not exceed 10,000 words, or according to the prerequisite of the program. • 12) The final report is the property of the student, the supervisor and Universiti Putra Malaysia.
