  2. Questions to discuss • Why is the topic important to MiraCosta as we begin this academic year? •  What do we still need to learn about this topic ? (What questions remain unanswered as we address the topic?)

  3. Outcomes Assessment • PURPOSE: Validate student abilities upon completion of course and program (as applicable). • HOW? Define and publish for each program, expected student learning outcomes. Employ direct and indirect assessments to measure success. Set minimum achievement levels, assess, evaluate, create action plans.

Student Services Departments • The purpose of SAOs/SLOs of Student Services departments is to assess and evaluate departmental processes in order to grow and develop outcomes that highlight our work with students, faculty, and staff. • Formative (throughout semester) and Summative (end of semester) assessment/evaluation is conducted on a yearly basis. • Our objectives/outcomes evolve over years based on staff analysis within the department.

Support Services • Contributes to student success by promoting services that focus on retention, learning, and campus involvement. • Evaluate student support services to assure that they meet identified student needs and contribute to the achievement of SLOs. • Use results as basis for improvement.
