International Baccalaureate Diploma • IB Requirements are separate from NYS requirements • 6 International Baccalaureate Exams  • Submission of an extended essay • Complete 150 service hours • Complete the Theory of Knowledge course  Email Mr. McCrudden with questions or to set up a meeting Michael McCrudden, IB Coordinator

Additional Commencement Credentials  Can be earned in addition to Regents Diploma This will recognize each student's preparation and skills for post-school employment Career Development and Occupational Studies Skills & Achievement The Career Commencement Credential should also be accompanied by documentation of the student’s skills and strengths associated with: Academics Career Development and Exploration Foundational skills for post-school living, learning and working Can be Credential for students who may qualify with their IEP This will recognize each student's preparation and skills for post-school employment In place of an Individualized Education Program (IEP) Diploma  This will provide an IEP student with additional opportunity to exit school with a credential that also recognizes the student’s work readiness skills  Nicole Schmidt, HS Counselor

Courses • Regents Courses: Standard level NYS courses requiring a Regents Exam • Regents Exams: Statewide standardized examinations in core high school subjects required for certain Regents Diplomas • Honors Courses: more rigorous courses offered in grades 9th-12th. They carry a greater weight in your average. Students must be recommended to take an honors course • AP Courses: College level Advanced Placement courses are offered from 10th-12th grades. Depending on AP exam, college credit could be given • IB Courses: International Baccalaureate Courses are rigorous college credit baring courses  • Electives: There are elective opportunities in the areas od Music, Art, Family & Consumer Science, Technology, Business & subject area electives • Class Rank: Student's averages each year are put in rank order from highest (#1) to lowest • Weighting: For the purpose of ranking, classes are weighted: Honors = 1.04, AP & IBSL= 1.06, IBHL= 1.08 • Transcript: Summary of courses taken throughout high school – will be sent to colleges  Natasha Allison, MS School Counselor

  7. Students are recommended for either Regents or Honors for most of their core academic courses. • AP & IB courses start to open to students in 10th grade. Electives • Students are required to take at least 1 credit in Art/Music for graduation • Students typically take this credit in 9th grade • Students also have the opportunity for another period of electives, study hall or support class Natasha Allison, MS School Counselor

  9. How are Classes Chosen? What if I disagree with the teachers recommendation? Recommendations are made by 8th grade teachers for 9th grade classes Honors Recommendations Based Upon: Grades:(Generally 90% average or above) Effort: Quality assignments consistently turned in on time  Class Participation Past Performance If you disagree with the recommended course for your student, contact the teacher who made the recommendation Natasha Allison, MS School Counselor

Art Credits • STUDIO IN ART (Full year 1.0 credit) In Studio One, students learn basic art concepts and vocabulary, are introduced to the study of art history, and learn a wide variety of art-making techniques including drawing, painting, calligraphy, printmaking and collage. Students also practice the use of different mediums, such as watercolor, charcoal, acrylic paints, etc. The focus of the course is to build a broad foundation for the appreciation and continued study of visual art. Studio One is highly recommended for students interested in pursuing an art sequence throughout high school, including IB or Advanced Art. • DESIGN AND DRAWING FOR PRODUCTION / INTRO TO ENGINEERING DESIGN (Full year course 1.0 credit) Bringing math, science and technology together, this course is a hands-on, laboratory based course which introduces students to the concepts of 3D drafting. By focusing on the applications of the Inventor 3D drawing program, students will develop problem solving skills using various methods to analyze and produce products of their design.   11. Music Credits • SYMPHONIC BAND (Full year course 1.0 credit) Prerequisite: Successful completion of previous year’s LAMS or RHHS band curriculum, or permission of the instructor. This course involves the intensive study of a wind or percussion instrument and performance in a large-group setting, stressing musical literacy and the development of independent musicianship. • CONCERT CHOIR (Full year course 1.0 credit ) Prerequisite: An audition with the instructor is required. This course involves the intensive study of music through vocal performance. The curriculum stresses music literacy and the development of healthy and effective vocal technique. Students are expected to reach an advanced level in all aspects of musicianship including tone quality, intonation, diction, breath support, solfeggio, rhythm, expression, and music theory. Students receive information similar to tonight's presentation in class • Students select their art/music credit and electives during presentation • Teacher recommendations are received by School Counselor • Student meets with Counselor to review their high school schedule (Late Feb through Spring) • College and Career interests are discussed  • Course selection sheet will be sent home for parents to review and sign; student will return sheet to School Counselor • Course selection guides will be given to students and are available on the HS website Scheduling Process  Natasha Allison, MS School Counselor
