  9. CCAVE Purpose Protected school time for: • Providing extra assistance • Increasing commended performance • Increasing AP exam/PSAT/SAT/ACT passing rates • Ensuring 9th & 10th graders are ready for STAAR EOC (End of Course)

  10. CCAVE Placement • CCAVE is part of the school day. • Rotates every day; student will see teachers for an extra 30 minutes every 7 days • Passes to high need classes allowed on Tuesdays & Thursdays • Truancy consequences apply

  11. Homework Policy • 30 minutes of homework per day; AP classes may require more; due when specified by the teacher • Outside of class major assignments, projects, and tests will be due/administered on designated days as noted on the table that follows.

  12. Tutorial Schedule • Every morning from 8:05 – 8:35 (except when teacher has duty) • Mondays: Biology Room 822 • Tuesdays: Algebra Room 108 • Wednesdays: English I Room 324

  13. Dates for Testing and Major Assignments or Projects

  14. Attendance • Students must attain a 90% attendance rate in order to receive credit in a course. • 7 absences allowed in the first semester; lose credit on the 8th • 9 absences allowed in the second semester; lose credit on the 10th TEA School of Academic Distinction

  15. Attendance / Leaving Campus • Submit written notes with every absence. • Permits to leave campus need to be obtained in the morning before school. • Early release or checkouts are not permitted after 3:00 p.m. unless a permit to leave is obtained in the morning. Graduation Requirements: The Recommended High School Program • 26 Total Credits • English Language Arts • 4 Credits • English 1 • English 2 • English 3 • English 4 • Mathematics • 4 Credits • Algebra 1 • Geometry • Algebra 2 • The 4th credit selected from the following: • Pre-calculus • Advanced Mathematical Decision Making • AP Calculus AB • AP Calculus BC • AP Statistics AP and/or Dual Credit classes may be substituted where appropriate.

Graduation Requirements: The Recommended High School Program • Languages other than English • 2 Credits • Any 2 levels of the same language • Physical Education • 1 Credit • Athletics, NJROTC, Drill Team, Cheerleading, Band are substitutes for the PE credit. • Health • .5 Credit • Health will be taken during the 10th grade year. • Speech • .5 Credit • Communication Applications

  22. Grade Level Classification At the end of the freshman year, students will need: 7 Credits for Sophomore classification 13 Credits for Junior classification 19 Credits for Senior classification Students need 26 credits to graduate on the recommended plan.

Keeping Your 9th Grader on Track to Graduation • Monitor homework • Monitor grades • Recognize effort (effort creates ability) • Seek teacher assistance • Encourage tutorial access • Consider buying a laptop with wireless access for holidays (Christmas), birthdays or as an incentive for doing well. Students can bring them to school.
