ACS Guidelines for Chemistry Programs in Two-Year Colleges Implementing the Guidelines can help programs and institutions: • Align their missions • Meet the needs of a diverse student body • Support the institution and the community • Articulate with programs to which students transfer • Compare to programs of recognized quality American Chemical Society

What is the assessment tool? • Self-Assessment of your Department and School • Based on the ACS Guidelines for Chemistry in the Two-Year College • Found on the web or booklet form • Who has done it? • Over 65 schools across the country • Every demographic of school • Continually changing to match the updates to Guidelines and optimize processes and feedback to schools. www.acs.org/2YGuidelines American Chemical Society

What is the goal of completing the tool? • Stated Purposes: • Aid in strategic planning • Provide background for funding requests • Conduct internal program review • Acquire support for college’s accreditation • Conduct national or regional benchmarking • Other Purposes: • Learning about your department and school • Provide a clearer vision for your work • Free framework for outside evaluation American Chemical Society

Why to use ACS assessment tool? • The ACS Assessement Tool for Chemistry in Two-Year College Programs is a resource to help your institution evaluate the strengths and opportunities for growth in: • Chemistry transfer programs • Chemistry-based technology programs • Chemistry courses offered in support of allied programs • The assessment tool provides a framework to develop a comprehensive portrait of education within the context of the ACS Guidelines for Chemistry in Two-Year College Programs.* American Chemical Society

  6. Can I get feedback when I use the assessment tool? • Registration for the 2016 review cycle is now open. The review cycle provides support for completing the tool, as well as third-party feedback on your assessment • Optional review process • Reviews completed by Assessment Review Panel • Registration for review of your assessment will be open January 18 through April 18, 2016 http://surveys.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0HAMwdk17GhZ9l3 • May 30, 2016: Single section of assessment due for initial feedback • Conference calls and reminder emails • Completed tool due September 12th, 2016 www.acs.c o m American Chemical Society

Can I get feedback when I use the assessment tool? • Review Process • Individually reviewed by 3-5 peers • Face-to-face meeting of 2-3 reviewers to prepare a letter with comments (received in January) • Participants in the review process receive: • Customized feedback based on the Assessment Review Panel review • Aggregate summary of notable practices gleaned from all assessment reports • Toolkit for sharing results with administration • Highlight strengths • Suggest ideas for growth • Identify potentially useful resources Follow up survey • Feedback on the process • Request additional assistance American Chemical Society
