  2. Subject Complement A subject compliment follows a linking verb and tells who or what the subject is like. The ice felt cool. (felt is a linking verb and cool is a subject compliment) Practice The boys were the winners of the contest. The waves were too calm. LV LV

  3. Direct Objects A direct object follows an action verb and tells who or what receives the action of the verb. Chris told a secret. (told is an action verb. Secretis a direct object) Action Verb Direct Object
