  2. Mesopotamia • Mesopotamia is the world oldest civilization. • The Greeks called this river valley Mesopotamia, meaning “Land between 2 rivers.”

  3. Land Between 2 Rivers • Mesopotamia civilization began in between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers.

  4. Land Between 2 Rivers • Both rivers flow into the Persian Gulf. • This region formed a strip of rich, well watered land called the Fertile Crescent.

  5. Farming The Mesopotamians were the first to practice irrigation. The snow in the northern mountains would melt causing unpredictable floods, that could be helpful and dangerous.
