NETWORK IT Aims • Make it easier for computing/IT depts, IT employers & others (Gov) to establish and maintain productive contacts • Be open & easy to access by genuine organisations (not as individuals) • Enable topic/interest groups to develop & cooperate • B2B dialogue not social networking site.

  4. NETWORK IT Needs to be addressed: • What businesses (incl SMEs) seek & what available • Signposting to & from other sites • Seek partners for research projects • Inform businesses on courses/cpd available • Inform potential learners • Direct people to placement sites

  5. NETWORK IT High Level Functionality • Subscription-based, rather than advertisement-based, to ensure that the site is seen as trustworthy & inclusive • Distinction between those who are able to post messages on the website and those who are only able to read the content • Possibly sub-sites for SMEs & students • Moderated by informed person

  6. NETWORK IT Governance • Co limited by guarantee – not for profit • Around 8 shareholders/funders: Intellect, e-skills, CPHC, CIHE, NCC, BCS, CBI, IET, WCIT • Supporters/initial funders: DIUS, DCSF, BERR, Cabinet Office etc • Other supporters: Eurim, Pitcom, Profess Bodies

  7. NETWORK IT • Board: CPHC, Intellect, NCC, CIHE, BERR, e-skills; • Initial Costs: maybe £50K split 10+ ways • Annual Costs: maybe £30K split 8 ways

  8. NETWORK IT Liabilities • Misleading info: people must post with their validated identity; data will time expire • Libel: hence responsibilities of “posters” & Moderator • Freedom of Info: not applicable if not public body and if readable info • ??

  9. NETWORK IT Next Steps • Seek views on the proposal • Develop functional specs via small task groups • Seek legal commitments • Seek funding commitments • Seek web linking commitments • Pilot the site
