  1. SETTING GOAL THEROY by locke BY AZEEZ FUSIGBOYE AND IMO

  2. What is goal setting Firstly of all, goal setting can be defined or explained by the way we establish, specify, measure, achieve targeted goals or things you have set to achieve between a period of time These are the five features of goal setting.

  3. The theory of goal setting by locke "Toward a Theory of Task Motivation and Incentives," This is a statement Locke stated that employees were motivated by clear goals and appropriate feedback. He also went on to say that working toward a goal provided a major source of motivation to actually reach the goal – which, in turn, improved performance. Furthermore, Locke's research showed that there was a relationship between how difficult and specific a goal was and people's performance of a task. He found that specific and difficult goals led to better task performance than vague or easy goals.

  4. Principles of theory • Clarity • Commitment • Challenge • Feedback • Task complexity

  5. How the theory helps us • It helps us with job performance because when when you set realistic challenging goals for yourself you are motivated to work even harder than you normally do. It also helps with our individual needs because when we want something like say a car, you would set a goal that by the end of the year or 3 months you would make enough money to buy this car.

  6. Summary • The theory is basically about setting realistic goals for yourself

  7. Questions • Do you think goal setting is important in the work place? • What kind of goals should someone set if they want to get into a good university?
