  3. The Big Question: (who are we?) • The 24 hour news network of Messiah College • Media Lab for students to gain hands-on skills either as volunteers, staff, or practicum students • Conglomeration of the Swinging Bridge newspaper, Clarion yearbook and Pulse FM

  4. 20 paid staff members • 18 practicum students • 40-50 volunteers …in areas of photography, radio, writing, design, and more

  5. Plus, snazzy online tools! • Messiah Terminal • Pulse.messiah.edu • Swinging Bridge website • Facebook, twitter, pinterest

  6. Why an integrated student media? • Better educational tool for students • Better resembles the media structures in “the real world” • Promotes better accountability structure • Able to do more things better • Able to serve clubs and organizations better

  8. State of the Yearbook

  9. The 2011 yearbook (Before the Pulse), which was offered free to seniors, got the Clarion into substantial debt. This was absorbed by SGA/The Pulse in 2012. • The 2012 yearbook was offered for free online with the option of ordering a free hard copy. • The 2013 yearbook will be sold to seniors for $35, approximately $50 off the full price. (no online option)

  10. State of the Co-curricular • Pulse is extra-curricular and co-curricular. We have 18 practicum students this semester. • Journalism students have to get 40 hours per credit, and at least 4 credits over 4 years • Practicum tracks • Skills, multimedia, Magazine, News, Radio

What we can do for organizations • Give information to over 1,200 facebook and 400 twitter followers. • Explore opportunities for articles in the Swinging Bridge, circulation of 1,000 and available online • Provide free radio advertising (for student clubs) • To explore any of these options for your upcoming events, email thepulse@messiah.edutwo weeks prior
