  6. Football Career Wynton Rufer’s started his professional career as a footballer when he joined Wellington United. From there he played for two more clubs until he was spotted by Ken Brown, a manager of Ipswich town in the English premier league. Even though he passed all his trials he was unable to play because of his work permit. But the following year he joined or F.C Zurich, a team witch he played with for seven years. After his long period with Zurich he signed with Germany’s biggest team Werder Braemen. After 7 long years with Werder Braemen he returned to New Zealand to play in the domestic league. At the age of 40 Wynton Rufer hung up his boots and ended his career forever!

  8. Why I think he is a Kiwi icon First of all he scored two key goals to send New Zealand into it’s first ever world cup. He is the first kiwi born person to play internationally for more than one team. He is the first person to be inducted into the New Zealand sports hall of fame. He represented our country with pride and showed to everyone New Zealand is a Footballing nation. He is the first Kiwi to be accepted into the Fifa football committee. Last but no least Wynton Rufer is the best footballer to come out of our nation!
  9. What does Wynton Rufer inspire me to do Wynton Rufer inspires me to always give it my best and never give up, for example he never gave up when he was sent back home from England because he did not have his work permit. Now if that was me I would have really lost hope but he didn’t he trained harder and performed better and later on that year he got signed for a team in Switzerland. Also I saw in every game that he played he always gave it his best even if it was a ball going out he stilled challenged for it and most times it would produce a counter attack which later on ended in a goal!
  10. Conclusion I would like to thank you for viewing my presentation, I hope you have learnt a little bit about Wynton Rufer and look up to him as a Kiwi Icon!
