Introduction to the Author • Doug Mills – from the Riverside Ward in the Columbus Ohio Stake • Serve as Home Teacher and Counselor in Bishopric • Married with three kids ages 5, 3, and 2 (in 2004) • Work at OSU as a programmer in Civil Engineering • Favorite place on earth is Prince William Sound in Alaska • Enjoy wildlife photography, outdoor adventures
Why Tell You About WardInfo? • I hope you will use it ! • It is a convenient and handy tool to use. • I won’t benefit at all by you using it (except in satisfaction) – it is free. • It is in use in many wards around the USA, and to some extent in other countries.
WardInfo Includes • Lots of information about ward families and individuals, customized info easily included. • Lists and analysis of ward organization, visiting, and membership in various ways. • Action lists, birthdays, commonly needed items. • All names, callings, and so forth are ‘hyperlinked’ so it is very easy to navigate.
Member Information Sensitivity • Six versions of output allow distribution of information appropriate for stewardship responsibilities. • Bishopric – all information. • Melchizedek Priesthood Leaders – very much information. • Relief Society Leaders – very much information. • Youth Leaders – some information, with youth emphasis. • Other Ward Leaders – some information. • Members – no confidential information. • Versions may be further customized as leadership determines. • WardInfo distributions have an encryption password for use with email.
The Proof of the Pudding ------ a d e m o n s t r a t i o n ------
1) Receive the email with attached file. Attached file is named something like Ward.Ede Save the attachment to your hard drive in a directory like C:\Riverside. Rename the Ward.Ede file to Ward.Exe 2) Run Ward.Exe to extract the update. Supply a password, as given by the person distributing the update. The update will replace the old version on your PC completely. If it is a palm pilot update, install the extracted Ward.Pdb file using the normal hot-sync mechanism. 3) View the WardInfo pages with a browser. Start your favorite web browser (Netscape, Internet Explorer, etc). Enter “C:\WardInfo\index.htm” in the URL field and press Enter to point your browser at the WardInfo pages. Suggestions for ImplementingWardInfo in your Ward • Identify someone that is: • Very familiar with computers (able to use DOS programs). • Can be given clerk’s access to MIS (or receive it from the clerks). • Has 3 to 5 hours a month available. • Has good network connectivity (if using email distribution). • Will reliably track attendance/participation data that you want to track. • Can help leaders to put WardInfo files on their PC or handheld (if needed). • Issue a calling or make an assignment for that person to distribute monthly updates to appropriate ward leaders. • Determine which ward leaders should be given which version of information, and if the information needs to be customized.
